About the Job
As our new Plant Protein Intern you will work within the Protein and Plant-based team of Danone. This team focusses on exploring the technical feasibility of implementing innovative ingredients, concepts, or scientific evidence into new or existing products or technologies, based on consumer insights.
So, what will be your main key responsibilities?
To assess plant proteins for their application in novel product formats and develop product prototypes:
Investigate plant proteins from different sources and their behavior in product model systems
Understand ingredient interactions and the effect of process conditions
Develop & evaluate product prototypes in both lab & pilot plant scale
Identify the technical challenges of using plant proteins ingredients in novel product formats.
Provide formulation and processing guidelines for the development of plant protein novel products.
To interact and communicate with different departments within Danone Nutricia Research (e.g. product development, process, user experience, quality);
To interpret findings and to effectively communicate them to relevant stakeholders;
Hands-on support to the team when needed.
You are a Masters student in Food Science technology, Food Process, Biotechnology or in a relevant disciplinewith a strong interest in protein functionality of plant sources.
You are very motivated to provide concrete solutions to business challenges. Able to work autonomously in a complex and fast-paced work environment, act proactively, and effectively communicate with different stakeholders (technical and non-technical). You are a results-oriented person, thriving in an environment where you can solve problems and be continuously challenged. Furthermore, you have strong analytical skills, creative thinking and a ‘can do’ mindset. Experience in working with protein ingredients, processing technology are considered as a plus. Laboratory experience with physical chemical characterizations is a must have.
Next to this, there are a few eligibility requirements:
Enrolled as a Masters student during the whole internship period (if you are a non-EU citizen, you need to be enrolled at a Dutch university);
You can start in October (preferred) or September 2022 for a minimum of 5 months, 4-5 days a week;
You are fluent in English – written and spoken;
You are able to work in Utrecht, the Netherlands
Please note that you are required to relocate to the Netherlands (if abroad) for this internship and get a BSN.

We offer a gross monthly internship allowance of 450 (HBO students) or 550 (WO University students) euros per month and a travel card. Please do keep in mind that we do not offer relocation and/or accommodation benefits for students coming from abroad.
