    Internship (R&I): Enzyme Technology

    As our new new Enzyme Technology Intern, you will be part of the Enzymes, Biotech & New Ingredients Team in the Advanced Technology department of Danone Nutricia Research. This team focuses on researching and developing new innovative ingredients and technologies using enzymes and biotechnology for the future Danone portfolio.
    During this internship project you will investigate the enzymatic conversions of substrates into biofunctional products for our specialized nutrition portfolio. You will contribute to the scouting and assessment of suitable enzymes. You will also design and optimize a new enzymatic process, and propose a plan for scale-up.

    Your main responsibilities will include:
    • Evaluating enzymes for their potential of converting substrates into biofunctional compounds
    • Performing laboratory and pilot plant scale bioconversions to set-up operating conditions and optimize yield
    • Collaborating with our analytical chemistry and immunology teams for molecular characterization

    Throughout the internship you will also develop your skills by:
    • Interacting and communicating with different stakeholders within Danone Nutricia Research.
    • Interpreting findings and effectively communicating them.
    • Working in a multicultural diverse environment.
    About you

    You are a Master student in Food Science and Technology, Food Engineering or Biotechnology, with practical laboratory experience and a strong interest in ingredient functionality and strong motivation to make a positive impact on the health and well-being of consumers. You are able to work autonomously in a complex and fast-paced work environment, act proactively, and effectively communicate with different stakeholders (both technical and non-technical). You have strong analytical skills, creative thinking, and a ‘can do’ mindset. Experience with enzymatic conversions and/or microbial fermentation is considered a plus.

    There are also some compulsory requirements:
    • You are an enrolled Master student in in Food Science and Technology, Food Engineering or Biotechnology or a relevant field (non-EU citizens are only eligible to apply if they are enrolled in a Dutch university);
    • You are fluent in English – oral and written; French is considered as a plus
    • You can start from September 1st for at least 6 months, 5 days per week; (up to 5 days per week in the office R&I Utrecht depending on the stage of research and lab hours)
    • Please note that you are required to relocate to the Netherlands (if abroad) for this internship and get a BSN number.
