UI/UX designer - Central Planning & Engineering Intern (5-6 months)

The Service Standards & Solutions team, as part of Central Planning & Engineering (P&E), drives sustainable business growth by designing scalable and bespoke solutions for our customers. We strive to establish operational excellence and a seamless operational integration of FedEx and TNT within Europe. To achieve this, we define standards, provide support, deploy the latest technology and measure, monitor and help improve our service to our customers.
You will be working in a diverse team consisting of around 70 experts who are strategically positioned across Europe. Even though the team has a European focus, there are various projects with a global or multi-regional scope. Preferably we are looking for work-along interns who want to build on their experience and develop their competencies. However, we are also open to interns with research assignments that fit the Central P&E department.
UX/UI designer description
We’re looking for someone who can perform end-user research, understands user needs, and can make recommendations based on gained insights. In this role, you’ll be working with our corporate graphics and images, assisting the team with the layout of specific sections of our internal communications environment to improve usability. In addition, you’ll be asked to perform analysis on what software is most appropriate and support the design of pleasant, user-friendly interfaces.
Another angle of the project is to analyse the information landscape and develop a categorization to solve the puzzle of integrating data/information that is stored in different sources. In other words, create ontologies to limit complexity and organize data into user-friendly clusters. Performing text analysis to create metadata models, metadata generation and preservation for internal Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is another element to explore.
Research skills: knowledge about UX research methods (qualitative & quantitative, result analysis, and report generation). Being able to translate user needs into practical solutions.
Web design: knowledge about webpages’ structure, site navigation & lay-out.
Strong organizational skills.
Analytical skills to structure information.
Graphical skills are a plus.
You need to:
Have good command of English (additional European language is a plus).
Good knowledge of existing & new technologies and software.
Be a well-organized team player who meets deadlines.
Be comfortable working in teams as well as independently (working remotely in line with COVID regulations).
Eager to take initiative and maximize (learning) opportunities.
Be enrolled in a study at a university of applied science (HBO) or a research university (WO) for the entire duration of the internship.
Be legally permitted to work in the country of internship (work permit).
The internship location will be in the Netherlands. Given the current circumstances, working from home is still the norm for our team, however, once guidelines change, working in one of our offices, either in Hoofddorp, Veldhoven or elsewhere is also possible.
