    Head of Legal

    At New Motion, we are on a mission to enable everybody to drive as many miles as possible powered by clean electricity. We do this by designing, building, and supporting smart charging solutions for business charging, home charging and, charging on-the-go. Our award-winning services include charge points and a mobile app and charge card, which provide access to over 250,000 charge points in over 35 countries – the largest charging network in Europe!


    The transition to e-mobility is accelerating and we’re hiring for a Head of Legal to lead and support us as we embark on a period of enormous growth and transformation.


    You’ll lead a team 9 Legal professionals, setting the strategy and plans for where we aspire to be, not where we are today. You’ll be able to see over the horizon and will have the space to lead the transformation of our capabilities and ways of working for the future.

    Working closely with all functions across NewMotion, you’ll provide us with the right Legal advice in a rapidly changing landscape, providing input and support for our future product and propositions to ensure we remain and strengthen our position to enable a cleaner future.


    Your influence at all levels of the business and wider Shell group will play a key role in enabling our mission to support the transition to e-mobility and a cleaner way of driving.     The Job…

    Your core accountabilities are to...

    • Set the strategic ambition of the Legal Team in line with the overall company strategy, building a team that aligns with where we will be in 5 years, not where we are today
    • Advise the Leadership Team on legal implications of the company strategy and initiatives to deliver against this. Steer the management of legal risks together with the Leadership Team whilst taking all stakeholder interests into account
    • Provide a company-wide perspective on legal risks and challenges coming from the Policy & Advocacy space
    • Provide a company-wide oversight on the overall risk management framework and the mitigation of risks within the framework

    Success will be when you...

    • Put in place a clear roadmap for building the capabilities and resources needed to execute the strategy and drive accountability on a day to day basis, feeding into the growth needed for 3 - 5 years
    • Are an effective member of the extended leadership team; operating as a cross-functional role model for driving performance through others, motivating and inspiring our teams to work together, and executing strategy with consideration and understanding of how your piece fits into the big picture
    • Maintain a close working relationship with key Shell stakeholders to ensure that best practice from Shell is understood and applied where relevant and to ensure a good understanding of Shell Recharge Solutions within the Shell Legal/Compliance community
    • Define and manage external support as required to deliver the strategic plan and the associated budgets
    • Provide legal input to business model development and propositions in line with the company strategy
    • Work closely with the wider Shell organisation on intra-group contracting and the development/delivery of joint propositions that cut across organisational boundaries
    • Support the management of Ethics and Compliance and the relevant topic owners in ensuring compliance with the high standards of ethics and performance set by the Shell Group and at a company level with the Shell Recharge Solutions compliance framework;
    • Continuously improve (existing) standard agreements and legal processes and identify where new legal processes and standardisation need to be created in order to further scale and mature the business processes


    The person we’re looking for will...

    Have experience of…

    • Working both in private practice and in-house
    • Operating as the point of expertise for diverse legal matters
    • Working within either IT (product and services development) or an e-commerce driven organisation (beneficial)
    • Agile ways of working or OKRs would be advantageous


    Be skilled at …

    • Leading, developing, and inspiring a team
    • Applying legal and regulatory frameworks in a practical, accessible way
    • Building cross functional relationships
    • Making Legal ‘visible’; ensuring that you’re brought in at the beginning of proceedings to ensure compliance, speed and efficiency throughout
    • Communication - Exceptional written and oral communication skills in English and preferably another European language

    Be...

    • A qualified lawyer with a minimum of 7 years post qualification experience
    • Passionate about a tech-driven business in an ever-changing environment
    • Interested in Legal tech and new technologies to automate/standardise processes
    • Commercial and pragmatic in your outlook and approach

    Have knowledge of…

    • European legal framework of e-mobility and strong international contractual knowledge
    • Data privacy would be a plus
