    Head of Legal Operations and Programs

    The Role:

    Reporting to the General Counsel, the Head of Legal Operations and Programs at Irdeto is a strategic leader who will drive innovation and operational excellence to the Legal Department and by extension to the entire global organization. This role will engage in a highly visible way with a wide array of internal and external constituents. As part of this team, you will be at the forefront of helping the Irdeto Legal Department drive fast-moving strategic priorities, tackle operational challenges, and enable growth and innovation.

    The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational skills, process design expertise, and a proactive management style. While the expectation is that this individual will roll up their sleeves and do the work to ensure operational excellence, they see themselves as a strategic planner. This individual is able to identify, design, implement, and reinforce the processes and systems that allow the Legal team to both run smoothly and provide stellar service in its relentless focus on driving results for our internal business partners and external customers.

    Your mission at Irdeto:

    • Help develop and implement Legal Department’s operational and strategic plans in partnership with the department’s leaders supporting the department’s strategies and mission (and in line with company objectives), and further execute process improvements to focus the department on high value and high impact work and appropriately manage risk.
    • Own Irdeto’s compliance and management programs as run by the Legal Department (including IP, Data Privacy, Risk Management and Corporate Governance). For each program, ensure properly constituted committees, organize an appropriate frequency of committee-meetings, and drive agendas and projects towards success. In doing so: (i) develop frameworks in-conjunction with respective knowledge-owners within department leadership and cross-departments; and (ii) incorporate existing or necessary policies and processes, including those related to sanctions, anti-bribery, export control, open source software, IP disclosure, standard setting-organizations, third-party vetting, privacy by design assessments, records of processing activities, and data privacy impact assessments.
    • Own Legal Department’s technology solutions and related processes, including contract management workflow and database, billing, document and matter management, data privacy platform, risk management platform, patent workflow and database management, and Intranet systems and websites in order to drive efficiency, collaboration, and departmental alignment.
    • Collaborate with Company Secretary on global Irdeto and (where needed) MultiChoice Group corporate-entity management program, ensuring mandatory and formality requirements are met consistently/recurrently.
    • Provide creative thinking to help identify cutting-edge strategies for increasing value, reducing low value work and optimizing outside legal spend while maintaining excellent legal representation.
    • Support the Legal Department’s planning by creating meaningful department metrics, business analysis and industry benchmarking.
    • Develop Legal Department technology roadmap in partnership with department. Liaise with Irdeto’s Technology Group on identifying, implementing, integrating, and optimizing applications and tools, and building internal tools and automation capabilities.
    • Develop policies and processes required for maximum efficiency and consistency across the Legal Department effectively managing risk allocation and achieving value for the overall business.
    • Manage the Legal Department’s financial plans and budgets within defined financial targets and objectives.

    How you can add value to the team?

    • 7+ years of experience in the areas of legal operations or legal program management in-house or at a law firm, preferably in a global environment demonstrating strong experience in the areas detailed above.
    • Demonstrated strong business and financial acumen and ability to utilize sound business judgment in providing actionable legal and strategic solutions. Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree in business and/or law preferred.
    • Demonstrated experience with strategic planning, outside counsel management, staff personnel management, and systems implementation and management.
    • Experience working with and managing outside counsel, running RFP (or similar) process to optimize value, reduce costs and increase quality.
    • Knowledge of and demonstrable experience implementing and managing core legal systems, including billing, document management, contract management, risk management platforms, IP and data privacy management, and the like.
    • Very strong organizational and project management skills. Capable of handling multiple projects / initiatives simultaneously and executing to completion.
    • Prior staff management experience. A mentor-manager with a superior ability to manage and coach individuals with disparate interests and career trajectories.
    • Ability to travel as needed.
    • Natural problem-solver and strategic thinker. You are comfortable with ambiguity able to quickly tease through complexity and bring structure to chaos. You effectively identify and articulate implications up and downstream, taking action or escalating as appropriate.
    • Process personified. You are always looking for opportunities to eliminate manual work and determine where operational efficiencies should be addressed.
    • Communication Czarina/Czar. You communicate effectively and provide clear materials with actionable synthesis and recommendations. You have strong listening skills and you naturally codify and write things down. You deliver pithy, well organized artifacts (presentations, emails, reports) to drive fact-based decision making.
    • Analytically precise. You are able to perform and deliver large-scale, consistently trustable, precise and actionable quantitative and qualitative analyses.
    • Creative problem-solver. You look at business issues as challenges and you like to consider things from differing perspectives.
    • Highly collaborative, and partner-oriented professional. Your team-first attitude enables you to easily and effectively work across teams and cross-functionally. You establish enduring, trust-based relationships with key business partners and stakeholders. You love helping others drive successful business outcomes in their areas of responsibility.
