    Head of Development SourceUp

    (Based in Utrecht, the Netherlands)

Do you have experience in successful solutions development who can engage sustainable commodity buyers? Do you have a good understanding of the sourcing and verification needs of businesses, government, and civil society, and help us develop the online platform that channels demand to the farming communities producing sustainable commodities. Then you might be our new Head of Development SourceUp.

SourceUp was launched officially in December 2021 and with our partners we help make SourceUp become the world’s premier Solutions Platform for agricultural supply chain actors and landscape coalitions wanting to act and jointly create lasting sustainability impact.

    The Organisation

IDH, the Sustainable Trade Initiative, is a young, thriving, and dynamic organization financed by multiple European governments and private partners, with about 200 staff members and consultants at the HQ in Utrecht, the Netherlands. IDH has hubs in Latin America, Asia, and Africa. As a part of its strategy, IDH develops tools to solve sustainability issues of key agricultural commodities and sourcing areas.

Our Landscapes approach brings together businesses, government, farmers, communities, and civil society to build sustainable governance models across tropical forest regions, or landscapes. To link Landscapes approaches with Markets, IDH & partners have created SourceUp an innovative platform. SourceUp, one of IDH’s core initiatives, is a two-sided online platform that intends to change the way companies buying agri-commodities, and producing regions collaborate to solve some of the most important environmental and social challenges of supply chains.

SourceUp is based on three fundamental pillars: jurisdictional multi-stakeholder sustainability initiatives in producing regions (“Compacts”), an online platform (SourceUp platform) and Committed Buyers. Through SourceUp, local parties in the Compact can work in close cooperation with the Committed Buyers and supply chain actors to achieve both increased sustainability in the jurisdiction as well as demonstrating real impact from the ground. The focus of SourceUp is on palm oil, soy, coffee, and cocoa as main commodities.

    Who you are

As Head of Development, you will lead the development of SourceUp as a public-good platform, including the platform’s underlying data capture and its signposting to verification and traceability solutions. This work spans the entire value chain, from facilitating the monitoring and verification of Compacts in producing regions, to enhancing ways for consumer-facing companies to support those Compacts and claim impact on themes like forest positive action, regenerative agriculture, and livelihoods. You will be working closely together with the SourceUp Global Steering Committee, other IDH colleagues working on SourceUp and landscapes, and several consultants assigned to assist with the development of these crucial parts of the SourceUp model.

You drive the development agenda which engages SourceUp Global Steering Committee members, private companies, civil society partners and other stakeholders towards next-stage sustainability solutions and true market transformation.

Based in Utrecht, you are part of the global Business Unit Landscapes, reporting directly to the Director Markets & SourceUp. The position is a full-time position and requires some international travel.

IDH is looking for an organized, self-motivated, team player with strong development and data skills and a strong interest in supply chain sustainability. You are both analytical and practical, able to work independently and learn fast and working in a results-oriented, flexible, and hands-on manner.
