    In this role you will lead the legal function to provide high quality, proactive, objective and commercially orientated legal advice to internal stakeholders across the organization. You will ensure that all activities, both strategic and tactical will align with both the company long-term objectives and short-term tactical business needs. As the legal function leader, you will work closely with the company shareholders, the Management Board and leaders across the worldwide organization as a critical business partner.
    Assisted by a paralegal, you will liaise with other departments to coordinate the proper implementation of business agreements, ensuring implications are fully understood, properly defined and recorded. You will advise the business on legal and organizational issues, in view of applicable laws and regulations.
    This is a global role, requiring active engagement and alignment with the Synthon sites around the world.
    You will report directly to the CEO of Synthon.
    Job details
    Most important key deliverables and responsibilities in this role are:
    Delivering Business Agreements with functional leaders including research, contract manufacturing, clinical trials, procurement, license and supply and joint venture agreements
    Coordinate Intellectual Property matters
    cooperate with and support the Intellectual Property department on patent settlements, damages claims, (pharmaceutical) regulatory and competition matters and trademark issues.
    Lead Ethics and Compliance approach
    lead improvement and implementation of worldwide compliance programs on subjects such as trade embargoes, anti-bribery and corruption, competition law, data protection and codes of conduct.
    Ensure compliance with corporate governance matters for Synthon worldwide, such as ESG/ Sustainability and GDPR
    Assist Human Resources department on employment matters, when needed
    Support the company BD/M&A strategy
    Support other matters
    matters of product liability, employment and commercial litigation and provide direction to outside counsel if needed
    assist in implementing, improving and reviewing legal processes and procedures
    Drafting and examining agreements under Dutch or international law is also part of your responsibilities, including but not limited to agreements on and acquisitions. Your profile
    A (post) master’s degree in law
    Minimum of 10 years of post-qualification work experience in a complex and demanding legal transactional work area, within a law firm or in-house experience preferably within the pharmaceutical industry
    Experience with legal transactions in a commercial environment
    Experience with litigation
    Knowledge of intellectual property, data privacy, product liability and competition laws
    High proficiency in Dutch and English both in writing and speaking, Spanish is beneficial.
    Personal skills
    We expect that you have the ability to work both in a team and independently. Good judgment and interpersonal skills, you are a person who understands the importance of diplomatic sensitivities to effectively collaborate with others. You can clearly explain and communicate any legal requirements to different stakeholders. You are used to working on different topics simultaneously. Demonstrated experience in resolving challenging legal issues and ability to deliver sound, clear, practical legal advice in a business setting.
