We are on the lookout for an experienced financial accountant to cover significant accounting areas relating to our two legal entities, a Dutch N.V. and a US Inc. You will provide support to colleagues in both the Netherlands and the US.
Our Finance & Accounting team consists of eight engaged and driven professionals based in both the Netherlands and the US, who work together closely on accounting activities for both entities of Merus. The financial accountant will report to the Director of Finance & Accounting.
As financial accountant, you will ensure that assigned tasks are executed correctly, completely, on time, and in compliance with internal guidelines, SOX and US GAAP. You will work seamlessly within the team to meet timelines and requirements relating to both the N.V. and Inc. accounts. This role requires deep and comprehensive accounting knowledge and an ability to oversee the bigger picture, together with a continuous improvement and optimization mindset.
Your day-to-day tasks will be the following:
Contributing to flawless month-end, quarter-end and year-end processes for the areas assigned to you
Executing accounting transactions and making journal entries on a daily, weekly and monthly basis
Processing transactions for all cash accounts and financial investments.
Managing tangible and intangible fixed assets (i.e. additions, disposals, impairments) and depreciations
Managing G&A accruals and pre-paid expenses
Managing weekly payment batch controls
Providing hands-on support to other operational accounting areas where needed
Preparing month-end reconciliations, specifications, and explanations in your area
Initiating and contributing to process improvements
Executing and documenting SOX controls in your area
Interacting with the internal organization
Interacting with external specialists such as SOX specialists and auditors
The successful Financial Accountant will have hands-on personality, is able to work in an international environment across time zones and is fluent in Dutch and English. This is then backed-up by:
A relevant degree at the bachelor level
Proficient in financial accounting, with proven hands-on accounting experience
Preferably have work experience in biotechnology or pharma
Strong interpersonal skills according to the people around you
Work with a high degree of urgency, accuracy and quality
Results driven, analytical, and focused on throughput and output
Have excellent and advanced Excel skills and preferably experience with SAP
