    Editorial Operations Manager - McKinsey Sustainability

    Who You'll Work With

    You will work in our Amsterdam, Brussels, Dusseldorf, or Madrid office. You’ll be a critical part of McKinsey Sustainability’s communications team, joining the global team that supports this busy client-facing practice and working with sustainability consultants on content and communications projects. You’ll also work closely with colleagues in McKinsey Global Publishing.

    What You'll Do

    You will oversee the production of priority sustainability publications globally.
    This will involve hands on management of many simultaneous activities across the entire publishing process, from proposal review through content development and design to publication, in collaboration with McKinsey author teams (consisting of consultants and partners) and internal and external writers and designers.
    You’ll serve as the “the air traffic controller” for dozens of content projects yearly, ranging from long-form reports to feature articles to videos and multimedia projects. You will have experience coordinating a similarly complex and varied content pipeline and using software tools to track and effectively execute content delivery. You’ll also have experience working with diverse teams, including senior stakeholders, to develop and edit content in a range of formats.
    You’ll work closely with the external communications director, executive editor, production editor, and digital editor in supporting the practice’s editorial board and service-line leaders as they design publishing strategies and will be responsible for ensuring that the publishing team’s communications with author teams are clear and consistent. You’ll be a proven team player, with excellent written and verbal skills, and a keen sense of how to deliver excellent service to internal stakeholders.
    Over time, you’ll be expected to develop an active professional network within the firm—in particular, to build relationships with consultants, knowledge experts, and publishing colleagues. You will stay current on news and trends related to sustainable business and have an appreciation of audience-engagement practices and digital analytics.

    • 5+ years of professional experience in business writing and editing, including digital publishing, preferably for an English-language business publication or a professional-services firm
    • Exceptional project-management and organizational skills; ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, administer complex processes, meet deadlines, and liaise with in-house and contract editors and designers; experience coordinating high-volume editorial calendars
    • Strong editorial judgment and skill; proven ability to discern whether ideas are novel, distinctive, and compelling and to develop content that makes those ideas accessible to global audiences
    • Knowledge of sustainability topics and trends and their implications for companies and governments and their senior leaders worldwide
    • Ability to confidently and tactfully engage with senior staff and subject-matter experts; skill at achieving consensus and moving projects forward
    • Excellent communication skills and phone/videoconferencing manner (many of your interactions will be remote)

    • Willingness to be edited by peers and to receive and act on feedback
    • Ability to work independently in a low-structure environment and to deal with ambiguity; willingness to proactively seek guidance when appropriate
