    Associate Director, Discovery Data Science

    Genmab is currently seeking an Associate Director Antibody Research and Development Data Science to be based at the Genmab R&D center in the Netherlands. We’re looking for an experienced and knowledgeable team lead in the Genmab data science department in a highly collaborative role between data science and antibody research, antibody development and antibody production.

    In recent years Genmab scientists have developed innovative new antibody platforms to allow the interrogation of target(s) in increasingly efficient and superior ways. We have also invested significantly in high-throughput technologies to further refine and select our antibody products, which results in the generation of large quantities of data that can be transformative for drug development. In parallel, Genmab is constantly innovating antibody development processes and antibody production. With these innovations, the role of data, computational analyses and high-throughput technologies becomes vital. We are looking for a data scientist who is passionate to contribute to our scientific and technological progress and processes, is excited to work on biological questions. A data scientist who can lead a team of several data scientists to establish new approaches to mine antibody sequence data, design and implement machine learning and AI technologies. All to enhance our current capabilities in antibody knowledge generation, antibody product designs and production. In the role you will work closely together with biology teams and other scientists across the organization who will be analytically and scientifically empowered by your work.

    You and your team will be fully embedded into an international team of world-class scientists with state-of-the-art knowledge on therapeutic antibody development. Additionally, as a member of the data science team, you’ll be part of a global team that is at the core of both research, development, translational sciences, bioinformatics and commercial and digital health innovation at Genmab. As a highly independent computational scientist you will contribute to innovative projects in early stage research and development, with the freedom to explore and implement cutting-edge data science and computational technologies.

    Responsibilities

    • You will lead a team of several data scientists focused on the antibody engineering, development and production domain.

    • You are responsible for developing and implementing a vision for data science activities in the antibody space and drive innovation and the incorporation of new data science and computational technologies.

    • You work closely with our partner departments in antibody development, understanding projects, priorities and department goals. You will be responsible the alignment and close connection of your team to the various stakeholders.

    • You will still be hands-on in several projects, where you are responsible for design and implementation of data science, machine learning or other computational approaches focused on antibody sequence analysis, molecular design or high-throughput data analysis.

    • You are well-aware of overall goals of the early R&D department and can provide interpretations of your results and models to teams with diverse scientific backgrounds.

    • You demonstrate deep knowledge and expertise of your projects and collaborations, becoming the main point of contact for all projects that occur within your purview.

    • You develop a long-term vision that anticipates emerging organizational needs and work with your collaborators to translate that into an array of technology evaluation pilots, external partnerships, and work streams to advance research and development.

    • You report scientific results in patents, publications, and regulatory documents.

    What we ask

    • You hold a PhD degree in computational biology, chemometrics, (bio)physics, (bio)informatics, or computational chemistry with a strong focus on biology.

    • You are a technically and theoretically skilled data scientist who can design, build or adapt algorithms, knows when to select the right methodology for the right application

    • Prior experience with antibody proteomics, sequence analysis, structural biology or other antibody-related computational work is highly preferred.

    • 5-10 years of experience as an independent, post-doctoral scientist within industry or in academia.

    • Prior experience as a team leader is preferred

    • You have a strong background in machine learning and statistics

    • You have good programming skills (preferably with R/Python) and are experienced in using cloud services for storage and computing.

    • You are proactive and develop a vision that anticipates emerging organizational needs and act to translate that into an array of technology evaluation pilots, external partnership opportunities, and work streams to advance research and development.

    • You are a skilled communicator who can work in teams with diverse professional backgrounds and can liaise between the worlds of computational biology and basic biology.

    • You apply your educational skill to train and empower other scientists in the discovery department on computational methods and tools.

    • You have published in high quality journals, references, and external presentations.
