    Associate Director Cost Accounting

    We have an exciting opportunity in Haarlem for an Associate Director – Cost Accounting (AP Region)

    This position is part of the Cost of Sales and Inventory (COSI) organization; based in Haarlem, Netherlands and is part of the company’s global finance organization.

    This position will be together with peers responsible for:

    • Supporting local markets with management reporting, performing global product cost analysis.
    • Responsible for analytical analysis on operating results and ensuring correct mark-up elimination is performed.
    • Help drive the month end close process to deliver on time high quality financial numbers with supporting commentary and seek for continuous improvements.
    • Lead as a Subject Matter Expert the team applying our Intercompany Profit Elimination process.
    • Ensuring consolidated closing is performed according to policies and procedures so appropriate internal and external reporting can be performed.
    • Providing feedback to senior management on financial operational results.
    • Strong interaction with finance leaders across multiple divisions.
    • Supporting internal and external Audits.

    Main responsibilities

    • Manage, coach, and develop a team of 4 finance professionals.
    • Directing and managing the Finance function to ensure that Corporate reporting deadlines and requirements are met on a consistent basis.
    • Ensure product costing activities are performed in accordance with US GAAP rules and additional local regulatory requirements.
    • Responsible to deliver on Month End close milestones to meet Corporate timelines. Next to on time delivery; oversight is required to deliver high quality numbers with associated commentary for all associated close activities.
    • Responsible for reporting and analysis of entities in scope for Cost & Sales and inventory balances from end-to-end perspective on a monthly base.
    • Coordinate and supervise cost accounting activities in the company’s annual budget cycle; including product cost development in accordance with Merck's standardized approach.
    • Strong business partnering with Stakeholders across the AP region and ExM network to support business decisions.
    • Contribute and actively work with operation managerial levels to focus on financial stewardship, cost improvements and long-term business projects to achieve long term company goals.
    • Ensuring that appropriate and adequate internal controls are in place in accordance with corporate procedures and what is documented in Archer. Including liaising with internal and external audit teams.
    • Participate in weekly meetings with the director and peers to monitor and safeguard the departmental goals and strategy.
    • Back-up of one of the other Associated Directors with in the COSI team.

    Your profile

    • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in finance.
    • 5-10 years of relevant experience in Finance.
    • Strong affinity with manufacturing accounting is a plus.
    • Strong affinity with Intercompany Profit Elimination principles is a plus.
    • Previous practical experience of preparing accounts in accordance with US GAAP.
    • Solid SAP knowledge.
    • Active stakeholder management.
    • Experience with managing / coaching teams and interaction with diverse stakeholders.
    • An effective change manager with good ability to coach and develop talent.
    • Able to get the work done through your people.
    • Able to see the wider picture and how decisions could affect the site, region and division.
    • Ability to act with a Growth Mindset.
    • Able to explain complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
    • Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory.
